Federal support for charging grows as NRCan reveals new investment strategy

It was the kind of winter day Vancouver knows well. Bright skies, cold wind, and just enough sun to make you question if you should have brought sunglasses or a scarf. The kind of day where you could get a sunburn and catch a cold in the same hour.

Tap&Go EV was on site as Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced a new round of federal funding to accelerate EV charging across the country. Speaking on behalf of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Minister Wilkinson shared that nearly $19 million will go toward supporting the installation of over 2,400 EV chargers, with 1,880 of those planned for the Greater Vancouver Area.

What It Means for Tap&Go EV

We’re proud to be one of the 23 organizations selected to help bring these new chargers online. This initiative supports the work we’re already doing — making EV charging easier to access in real, everyday places. From curbside locations to commercial lots, our goal is to help make driving electric feel effortless.

These aren't theoretical deployments. They're real chargers coming to real communities, and we’re ready to deliver.

Part of a Bigger Shift

This announcement builds on years of investment from the federal government. Since 2016, over $1 billion has been committed to EV affordability and infrastructure. More than 34,500 chargers have already been supported through NRCan and related programs. In British Columbia, the CleanBC Go Electric program is also playing a major role in expanding public charging.

Looking Ahead

With funding confirmed and demand rising, we’re focused on building smart, user-friendly infrastructure that fits into daily life. Whether it’s for commuters, fleet operators, or local businesses, Tap&Go EV is working to make this transition feel simple and reliable.

We’d like to thank Minister Wilkinson, NRCan, and all project partners who continue to move this work forward.
